this is something I already did. I wrote to local german Internet
Service Providers asking for Sponsoring of a small virtual Server to
run for each others benefit.

I asked providers I couldn't find out about if they had local resolvers.

Currently I administer the T2 ns1.th.de.dns.opennic.glue and the
Provider (https://www.nbiserv.de/) was very kind to me, even though
OpenNIC is somewhat unheard of.

Maybe getting more Providers to use volunteer admins to run OpenNIC
resolvers would be a good start to see, if there is real interest in
this kind of abstraction from the DIY mentality that I think is part
of OpenNIC?
