While there may be some debate about the convention in the US, we tend
the opposite, with one notable case: M.A.S.H. I would be weary of
trusting a Wikipedia article, the most pertinent parts of which are
mostly uncited. Realize that the tech world, especially the media and
publishers, by and large leave out punctuation in initialisms.
