Hi,

Google and myself don't know what 'Analog' is.

Why would we do this

As I mentioned, "It's for insight into who visits our community and where they come from mainly." Also, as Amunak mentioned, data like this can be helpful for resolving technical issues with our services, and developing new features, etc. 

 who can see the information

 

Anonymous access would be enabled, allowing anybody to see very generalized info like page views, etc., no personally identifiable information. Some additional data will be available to certain individuals which would include the anonymized IP addresses and some browser information. Those individuals would likely just be the maintainers of our various web services: I'm guessing Fusl, Shdwdrgn (Jeff Taylor), and myself. But anyone who reasonably requires additional information could be granted access as well.

who does it benefit

It benefits the website administrators and maintainers in a technical sense. But really it benefits the entire community organizationally: being able to see our current audience and demographics can help us adapt and target new users in the future. It has no actual downsides to users as it doesn't collect any actual specific data, everything will be anonymized to a reasonable extent, while still allowing us to see a general overview. And trust in us isn't needed necessarily if you don't believe me, it'll be easy to disable or block client-side if need be.
