I see, thanks guys!

It's also possible that if the U.S. government in conjunction with MPAA
etc manage to heavily censor the web, OpenNIC TLD's and mail addresses
will become a lot more desirable, I would think?

I definitely think they are, since having your own e-mail address
(i.e. you AT yourdomain.geek [12], or what have you) is really cool. One of
the issues with opennic that I've pondered for a while is how to make
it possible for people with icann only resolvers to resolve opennic
domains when they aren't in a position to alter their machines
resolv.conf file (or equivalent).

For example, with mail, if you had a forwarding service that could
accept addresses such as "futuro AT opennic.tld [13]"@icann.tld, then I
could
give people that mail address and the server on icann.tld would strip
out the address futuro AT opennic.tld [14]and send the mail to me.

I haven't hashed out all of the details for this specific option, but
I think that services like it are really useful for adoption of
opennic. It spreads the word while also showing off the useful nature
of the project.

There is some use, actually. There is the small problem that normal
places would reject the from address as SPAM and that servers not
resolving OpenNIC TLD's cannot even send them. The mailing list can
send to OpenNIC addresses, however, so you are free to use one if you
wish for this purpose at least. On 2/5/2012 2:00 PM, Peter Green wrote:

Hi, I hope this isn't too off topic, but Dale's message has made me
wonder if there is much use of mail addresses @ OpenNIC TLD's? Peter

Hi Julian, I recently sent you an e-mail to your jdcomputers
address, but not sure if you got it. I'm inquiring about OpenNIC's
web (+ mail) hosting (which I read about in the wiki), since my
home web server is too slow to be useful for my purposes. Is this
still continuing,& is it for any OpenNIC TLD? If so, I would like
to apply. E-mail me back at dweide9 AT netscape.net [1]& I can send
the required info. If it is not still available, what would be the
alternative? Thanks, Dale
