Actually (and your suggestion pointed me in the right direction),
RFC822, "Source Routing". There's an example here:

http://www.remote.org/jochen/mail/info/address.html

(grep for "Source Routes")

So I know it's possible, but whether any MTAs are actually able to
parse it is another story.
