Ini the current sketch, the "open" is not in any recognisable typeface.
"NIC" is still recognizably based on a font dating from around 1930,
presumably long out of copyright even under the mad extended copyright
periods recently pushed on us by the US and UK governments. In any
case, the final design will be sufficiently modified while bringing some
consistency to the line forms that the "NIC" will also be a unique
design (which by the way I would put under creative commons copyleft).

Surprising to find proponents of openness so concerned to protect
ancient copyrights dating from two (if not three) generations earlier
technology.
