Personally, I don't think any new TLDs would benefit OpenNIC at present.

Most of the existing TLDs seem to be poorly maintained, with no registration interfaces. There are very few if any "real" websites using OpenNIC domains and as far as alternative TLDs go I feel that OpenNIC is dead.
