I completely agree.

Moreover there are specific procedures required to officially propose a new TLD as well as some requirements - generally people like to know the person in question a little - running your own T2 DNS server is a good way to start (and also get some idea on what is actually required, how it works and how hard it is on one's skills and time). Dropping in on discussions on the mailing lists and IRC is a good idea too. And from what (admittedly little) I've seen here I don't think Christoffer Unes necessarilly realizes.

Anyway, please don't take this as a personal attack. I just generally don't like the idea  of a new TLD (especially this niche). And if you decide to make an official proposal please follow the usual proceedures: TLD Policy and Charter

While I do see OpenNIC as important as an alternative to commercial DNS servers, I am not so sure any more about the TLDs. I will continue running the .bit bridge as I think it is useful for convenient access to the .bit domains. As soon as reliable, thin clients that do not require the blockchain are available, I can't help agree with people in the Namecoin community who see OpenNIC as "another irrelevant alt root" in terms of its TLD offerings.

I understand and accept that many people see the TLDs as part of what OpenNIC is, I just think that another new TLD, especially the proposed one without a registration interface, is not the best thing the project needs. This is also taking into the consideration that Christoffer Unes seems new to the project, having asked "what is opennic" on IRC less than 7 hours ago. I am sure he is capable of running his proposal, but it is hard to guarantee that when people tend to come and go quickly.
