I can't speak for Tier 2 servers, as they all are operated by different people over a large variety of hardware, but I see no need for Tier 1 expansion. The root of our DNS structure is structurally sound. As long as clients use multiple T2 servers that are operated by different administrators when configuring their devices, as all guides suggest, there should be no DNS reliability issues in the future, even at the current amount of servers.

I was thinking  in terms of a flood of users once the pages  improved, specifically  for mobile devices, and what degree of  increase
in name servers (T1/T2 )  would be needed to handle some hypothetical increases.
It would help gauge what efforts might be required in so far as soliciting more server operator members (if needed..)

1. Yes, because currently OpenNIC is not recognized officially by any operating system designer or networking authority.
2. The getting started guides are intended to change that, that's why they exist.
3. The Windows 7 guide applies completely to Windows 10. But I agree with you completely, yes the guides are outdated. I've been writing updated and new guides on my homepage for the .o TLD: https://www.moderntld.com/category/getting-started/ and if any website operators for the OpenNIC project want to use them that would be great! My tutorials fall under the CC BY-SA license so feel free to add them to the OpenNIC site :)

What exactly do you want to discuss? From my perspective the OpenNIC network is highly resilient. At a technical level the Tier 1 DNS servers all replicate with each other allowing no single point of failure, and there's a good range of Tier 2 servers to clients to choose from so redundancy can be trivially implemented. I personally operate 4 Tier 2 servers (https://www.moderntld.com/infrastructure/) in addition to the Tier 1 server for .o and many other TLD operators do the same. We meet and exceed any capacity needs for our network as far as I know.

We do have an information problem though, and we really need a team to start updating and maintaining the wiki and homepage, since they have fallen a bit behind.

Looking at the DNS landscape and the opennic intro and get started / how to page, 3 things stand out.
One is that DNS is mainly a client dependant system.
Two is that most if not all clients are pre configured to use ICANN only rootz DNS
Three is the opennic intro and get started /how to page are lacking sufficient information for users to make an easy choice (no mobile os how to, Windows 10 , possibly more).

I move that we  discuss improving  the last point considering the current capacity and potential  capacity needs of the opennic dns network. Aye?
