I'll second the idea about using XML-RPC/Atom, as it makes posting to Wordpress easy.

A typical way today to feed any news etc. into Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and
others is to build a rfc standard RSS/RDF/Atom feed (or different ones)
dynamically from web content and "feed" it by services like twitterfeed,
networkedblogs etc. into all of them incl. auto URL shortening aso..

As RDF/RSS/Atom is a open standard you can register/feed into many public news
and feed services too - without any further work ressources if set up once.
Other users are able to use or even integrate that source(s) into their own apps
/ websites etc.

I don't like wordpress as most PHPized software because it was and will often
known for security implications and problems - so it is service intensive aso..
But on another hand - with WP you easily can set up RDF/RSS/Atom feeds out of
the box - so why did not use that as the main "news" source?

Just my two cents.

cheerioh,

Niels.
