You may take my OpenLayers Javascript from:
http://alpinres.org/portal/huetten/huettenkarte/index_ger.html

as a base and add a URL to the OSM and OpenLayer Script URL of your server or 
any of the public available.

My Script uses a simple, external placed Textfile where each point is just a 
line with the geocoordinates, icons and some HTML for the popups etc. It 
could load it by http or other protos which could be easily generated i.e. 
dynamically from a database or similiar by a script.

This may be a good starting point to get fast results.
