Yes, getting a VPS is the best way to deal with this.
You can get something decent down to about $3 per year.
Here's a good place to start: http://lowendstock.com/
I recommend Low End Spirit. They are actually quite
reliable, but there's no support except on their
forum. Also, no IPv4 address, but you can do a reverse
proxy and use one of theirs. Of course you could just
use the IPv6 address they give you.
