Might be good to request (or even require) sunsetting plans -- if you
can no longer maintain a TLD how do you plan to handle it? Agreement
with someone to transition it to another OpenNIC member, or shut it
down entirely? Even if you plan on it never going away because you're
forming some non-profit or trust that's going to maintain it in
perpetuity, something could happen to that entity. Shut down to avoid
being sold as part of a liquidation, etc.
It'd force someone wanting to make a TLD to actually consider the
future as well as show anyone interested in registering a domain under
that TLD how likely it is it'll continue to exist for the foreseeable
future.
